What Women Want

In the 2000 movie What Women Want, Nick Marshall (Mel Gibson) gets a whole new outlook on life when a fluke accident gives him the ability to read women's minds. At first, this "gift" provides Nick with way too much information, but he begins to realize that he can use it to good effect, especially when it comes to outwitting his new boss, Darcy Maguire (Helen Hunt).*

Wouldn’t it be nice if we really could read minds? Being able to know why people do the things they do, and to anticipate their actions would be a real asset, even here at Bison!

On International Women’s Day we celebrated the many women at Bison, as well as in the trucking industry – from Drivers to Technicians, to our office staff. At Bison women represent 13% of our total employees.

Women represent 48% of the Canadian labour force, in the trucking industry, though, the numbers tell a different story. Women in the trucking industry represent:

  • 3% of drivers
  • 3% of technicians
  • 11% of management
  • 13% of parts technicians
  • 18% of dispatchers
  • 25% of freight claims/safety and loss prevention specialists

Because we can’t actually read minds like Nick Marshall, to learn more about our Drivers, Bison delivers many surveys, one of them being our Driver Motivation Survey. This survey isn't designed to find out how motivated they are, it is to find out what motivated them to become a professional drivers and why they chose Bison Transport.

You Gotta Love Millennials

I was at an industry event representing Bison Transport a few months ago, and I was surprised to hear so many senior leaders talking about Millennials and how they were flighty and didn’t want to work.

In fairness, that is a common stereotype. There are many videos, blogs, and memes showing how Millennials are lazy, privileged, and need to be coddled. One of the most popular shots at Millennials is this video. Be warned, the song is extremely catchy!
