I joined Bison Transport almost two years ago as the Saskatchewan Terminals Manager. It was my first foray into the transportation industry after spending a 32-year career as a police officer with the RCMP. There has been a steep learning curve since I came aboard with Bison, and I was, and continue to be, impressed with Bison’s Mission and Core Values. Not only are these values demonstrated daily with its employee and customer relationships, but also in the spirit of community-giving so often put forth by dedicated Bison staff.

The Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) is said to be “one of the most sweeping reforms to food safety laws in more than 70 years.” It was signed into law by President Obama in 2011, and aims to ensure the U.S. food supply is safe by shifting the focus from responding to contamination to preventing it.
You've met Roger, a professional Company Driver with Bison, a few times already. Earlier this month, Roger was invited to attend Canada's 10 Most Admired Corporate Cultures Conference and Awards Gala to represent Bison alongside a few other company ambassadors. He shared his experience with us, and we thought we'd share it with you, too. Enjoy!
It's a brisk early March morning in downtown Toronto. I've just stepped off the subway at Union Station. I do this trip often, but this time, I left my truck behind and flew in on the redeye from Calgary. Across the street I'm checking into the historic Fairmont Royal York Hotel. No, I'm not going to see the Blue Jays, they're still in Dunedin playing spring training games. I'm not here to see the upstart, young Maple Leafs squad either. I'm attending the Canada's 10 Most Admired Corporate Culture Conference and Awards Gala.

Here at Bison, empowering our people is listed first in our mission statement. Informally, we celebrate the achievements of our people each and every day, but we take one night a year to formally recognize the accomplishments of our Drivers and staff with our Annual Dinner & Awards Celebrations, which take place in each of our terminals across Canada. These awards are meant to celebrate our Drivers’ and Technicians’ hard work and commitment to safety, and to recognize our dedicated office staff that work tirelessly to support our Drivers and push our organization forward.
Bison Transport women at the Women with Drive Leadership Summit
Last week I had the pleasure of attending the 3rd annual Trucking HR Canada’s Women With Drive (WWD) Leadership Summit. To sum it up in just one word is difficult, but if I had to do it, I’d say “pride”. I’m proud to be among hundreds of people in our industry who strive to achieve significant change in the demographic pool of our companies and make a difference in the lives of other women.
